Overseas remittances to HCMC soar

Inward remittances to Ho Chi Minh City were worth $604.2 million in the third quarter, taking the figure for the first nine months to US$1.77 billion, more than double year on year, according to the State Bank of Vietnam.
The remittances were underpinned by the global economic recovery which saw higher repatriation by Vietnamese citizens living in other countries.
Inward remittances to Vietnam in the first half rose 20 percent to around $3.7 billion, the SBV said, forecasting it to rise to $6 billion for the whole year.
