From October 15 to 22, the beauties stopped in at press events organized at competition sites in Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Thiet (October 17), Nha Trang (October 19) and Phu Yen (October 20).
Miss Earth 2010 will be held between November 4 and December 4 in Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Phu Yen, Hoi An and HCMC. The ten-year-old environmentally-themed beauty contest has never before left the Philippines.
During their stopover in Nha Trang, the beauties signed a banner appealing to the local citizenry to protect the natural resources in the stunning bay. “Water is the best supply,” one wrote. “Water is the Earth’s life,” another wrote.
During a talk at Phan Thiet University, they promised a student audience that they would help them organize a beach cleanup during the upcoming competition.
At a press conference held last Saturday, Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry, who was the contest’s first Filipina winner, shared her feelings about her brief trip through Vietnam’s environmental sites.

“Like other countries, yours is facing many environmental issues like air pollution, especially in urban areas like Ho Chi Minh City,” Henry said. “I think the pageant is not only a beauty contest but also an excellent platform to launch an awareness campaign about the preservation of Mother Earth. If we want the beauty to last, we must live in a healthy world”
Ramos said that she and the other three contestants are not afraid to get their hands dirty and help collect garbage in a neighborhood walk event.
Nguyen Cong Khe, Chairman of Thanh Nien Media Group, the organizer of this year’s Miss Earth competition, said Diem Huong will represent the country at the upcoming pageant.
“The coronation night at Nha Trang’s Vinpearl Land Resort will be celebrated with noted foreign singers, hosts and live broadcasted on Star World, Filipino international and Vietnamese channels,” Khe told reporters.
The winner will receive an award worth US$20,000 and other prizes, said the former editor-inchief of Thanh Nien newspaper.
