Danish contest finalists display works in Hanoi

An exhibition featuring eight young artists competing for a Danish-funded talent prize opened early this week in Hanoi.

The eight finalists, chosen from more than 165 artists nationwide by a panel of art experts, will now be judged by the public who will vote online at the contest’s website: www.cuocthitainang2010.com.
The exhibition, held at Hanoi College of Fine Arts, will last till November 1, while the voting will end on October 31.
The judging panel said all the finalists showed different themes, concepts and interests in society as well as its problems. They all emphasized their own lives and the position of youth in today’s contemporary world, they added.
According to the Cultural Development and Exchange Fund (CDEF), the winner will take away a prize worth US$3,700, including $1,000 in cash and $2,700 to be spent on a solo exhibition after the competition.
CDEF’s annual award, the Talent Prize, aims to encourage young talents in various fields of art and support the country’s contemporary art scene.
The theme of this year’s competition, launched in May, was painting. More than 700 artists under 35 years old sent in entries.
