Vietnam Airlines to have 60 trained pilots

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on October 14th signed a contract with the Viet Flight Training Joint-stock Company (VFT) to train 60 pilots in Vietnam between 2010 and 2012.
Under the contract, each course will train 20 pilots during 72 weeks in Vietnam and France. The contract contributed to concretizing Vietnam Airlines’ orientation in training human resources for the aviation industry.
By the end of 2010, the airlines will have 636 pilots, 60% of which are Vietnamese. With the aim of raising the number of Vietnamese pilots to 75% by 2015, annually, Vietnam Airlines needs a minimum of 100 trainees trained locally and abroad to meet an average growth of 10% in pilot force from 2011 to 2020.
VFT General Director, Nguyen Nam Lien, said in 2010 and 2011, the company will conduct an additional four pilot training courses for airlines in Vietnam and in the region, with the majority of trainees from Vietnam Airlines. VFT will cooperate with the Vietnam Aviation Academy to teach flight skills to trainees in Cam Ranh International Airport and technology transfer will be completed in the end of 2012.
VFT was established in June 2008 under Prime Minister’s policy about basic pilot training for the country’s aviation industry. It was the first pilot training center in Vietnam licensed with the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), the highest level of aircraft pilot license.
