Torrential rains have triggered floods and landslides in central Vietnam, causing nearly 30 fatalities and missing persons.

Six out of seven districts attacked by floods
By late October 5, Quang Binh province was the hardest-hit by the natural disaster with 14 deaths, including five in the plunge ot the Huy Hoang cement transporting ship.
The floods have struck six out of seven local districts, preventing operation of eight trains carrying a total 1,100 passengers and thousands of means of road transport. The downpours have also isolated nine communes in the south of Quang Trach district and Tan Hoa in Minh Hoa district.
Currently, up to 35,500 houses in the province remain underwater with 4,000 families moved to safe places. Army forces have sent helicopters and canoes to provide relief for the locals.
In Quang Tri province, the floods have claimed three lives, including one three-year old child and two unidentified missing.
The local authority has proposed the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control give 1,500 tonnes of rice and 3,000 lifebuoys to the victims.

By the end of the same day, Ha Tinh witnessed six fatalities and a loss of VND300 billion ($15.38 million).
In Thua Thien-Hue province, the deluge has sunk up to 7,200 houses and threatened 1,800 hectares of rice fields. It has also resulted in 39 landslides on Ho Chi Minh Road and National Highways 1A and 49 A-B. The province’s total losses are estimated at VND42.45 billion thus far.
The provincial authority is seeking approval from the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control and the government for a relief of 1,000 tonnes of rice, 10 tonnes of instant noodles and 1,000 lifebuoys.
The province itself has also offered assistance for households which suffer from deaths and severe damage

Regiment Helicopter 954 under Division 372 located in Danang City on October 5 afternoon sent a helicopter coded Mi17 - 8411 to the flood-ravaged households in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri.
The helicopter transported over 1,000 tonnes of instant noodles, lifebuoys, emergency equipment and eight cadres from the division.
