Hanoi welcomes nearly 1 million foreign tourists


Vice Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sport, and Tourism, Truong Minh Tien, said that during the celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi between October 1st and 10th, Hanoi was the destination of nearly 1.2 million local tourists and 30,000 foreign tourists.
On the whole, during the first nine months of 2010, Hanoi greeted nearly 9 million local tourists, a 40% increase compared to the same period last year and 960,000 foreign tourists, a 15% increase. Mr. Tien further said that the successful celebration of the event contributed to the promotion of the image of the 1,000 year old capital city to the world.
As forecast, after the giant anniversary, more and more foreign tourists will flock to Hanoi. From now to the end of national tourism year 2010, the city’s tourism sector will continue to upgrade the quality of accommodation, tourism services, build more tours, and conduct the movement: “Hanoi people welcoming guests”. In 2010, the capital city expects to welcome 1.4 million foreign tourists and 11 million local tourists.
