The city’s own month-long promotional program is scheduled for next month.
The latter, the sixth annual sale, will feature a consumer products trade fair at the Phu Tho Indoor Stadium from August 31 to September 4, a mobile sale program in the suburbs, and another showcase of products manufactured by Vinamilk, Colgate, Unilever, and Kido at 46 Co.op Mart supermarket outlets nationwide.
Information about the program is available at http://www.khuyenmaihcmc.vn.
Last year the program attracted 500 firms and helped increase their revenues by 30-40 percent.
In the capital, Impressive Vietnam Grand Sale 2010 opened on August 4, while in Danang it starts Thursday, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), one of the organizers together with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Vietnam Airlines.
The prices of many goods and services have been slashed to attract local and foreign shoppers.
There are discounts of up to 50 percent at supermarkets, handicrafts shops, hotels, restaurants, and others.
The program is held as part of a national tourism marketing campaign titled Vietnam - Your Destination and is inspired by the success of neighboring countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore in combining tourism with shopping.
These countries have very successfully organized shopping programs aimed at tourists for a decade now.
